Before your rail worker medical assessment, we will need to determine which category you fall under. There are three rail worker safety medical categories, each requiring a different set of tests depending on whether your role involves safety or non-safety critical work.
Category 1: You are in this category if you are a rail safety worker who performs safety-critical work where sudden illness or incapacity could result in dangerous conditions for the general public or rail network.
Category 2: You are in this category if you are a rail safety worker who performs safety-critical work where sudden illness of incapacity would not threaten the safety of the general public or rail network.
Category 3: You are in this category if you are a rail worker who performs non-safety critical work where your health and fitness have no direct impact on the rail network.
Read on to find out what types of testing are necessary to complete for your category.
Each of the rail safety worker categories requires different testing levels to determine that the worker is healthy and capable of fulfilling the requirements of their role. At a minimum, all rail safety workers must pass an audiometry test, vision test and a musculoskeletal examination.
